Understanding Fear

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”- President Franklin Roosevelt

Fear is an unpleasant emotion or thought. It is the feeling you get when you are afraid or worried that something bad is going to happen.

For humans, it is natural to feel fear. The problem arises when we empower fear and allow it to influence our actions and decisions. When fear stops us thinking rationally and stops us from achieving our full potential and working to the best of our abilities.

When you are brave, there is no room for fear and you take brave steps. Courage is not absence of fear but the overcoming of fear. Fear is what stops you from achieving your dreams.

Physically fear can manifest in the following way:

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Tightening of muscles
  • Sharpened or redirected senses
  • Dilation of the pupils
  • Increased sweating
  • Rapid heart rate

Where does fear come from?

Fear originates from any kind of threat to your self-esteem, spirit or life. Fear limits your full potential. You can never fully run away from fear. Fear is a waste of energy. Fear is all in your mind.
